bye bye Clara Today we dropped Clara at Camp Lou Henry Hoover for "mini-camp" --- four days and three nights of Girl Scout fun. (Pop quiz: who was Lou Henry Hoover? One of the most famous troop leaders .... Bonus points if you answer without using Google.) It was hard to tell who had the hardest time saying goodbye, but it was definitely not Clara. On our way home, Ellie had me pull over so we could have a family cry.
As we were in northwest Jersey, we called Dan and K Serebrakian to see if we could stop by to say hello. They weren't home, but we drove up their driveway anyway, and saw a deer and several squirrels in the backyard. (I could remember their phone number, though we took one wrong turn looking for their house.) When I spoke to Dan later in the day, he told me they had another unannounced visitor yesterday --- the first of that species this year. (He emailed me the picture).
Ellie was distraught about leaving Clara, so Mallary and I tried to think of something we would all enjoy without Clara. The unanimous verdict: dinner at Star of India in Kenilworth. That did a lot for Ellie's mood.
